How To Proactively Plan Parenthood

Alternatives to Abortion: The Role of Preventative Measures

As the 50th anniversary of Roe v. Wade approaches, the topic of reproductive rights and abortion continues to be a hotly debated issue. While many argue for a woman’s right to choose, it is important to remember that men and women do have a choice in preventing an unwanted pregnancy. In fact, there are many alternatives to abortion that can and should be considered.

One alternative is birth control. With the advancements in technology, there are now numerous options for preventing pregnancy. From hormonal methods to barrier methods, there is a wide range of options available for women to choose from. By utilizing these methods, the number of unintended pregnancies can be greatly reduced.

Ectopic Pregnancies, the Misconception of Choice, and Rape

The pro-choice crowd from time to time argues that abortion needs to be an option because of rape, incest or a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy. Ectopic pregnancies occur when the fertilized egg implants outside of the uterus, typically in the fallopian tubes. These pregnancies are not viable and can be life-threatening for the mother. However, it is important to note that this is not considered an abortion, as the fertilized egg cannot survive. The American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists states that “an ectopic pregnancy is not a “choice” but rather a medical emergency that requires prompt treatment.”

In the case of rape and incest, data shows that these cases account for a small percentage of abortions. In fact, a study by the Guttmacher Institute found that less than 1% of abortions were due to rape and less than 0.5% were due to incest.

Pro-Choice Arguments Ignoring Underlying Cause of Failed Pro-Activism in Access to Abortion Services

Looking at data on abortion facilities in the United States, those who are pro-choice would argue that there is significant disparity in the availability of abortion services while ignoring the underlying cause of failed pro-activism being the reason that couples face unplanned parenthood. A study by Advancing New Standards in Reproductive Health found that 91% of U.S. counties are home to citizens who wouldn’t have a need for access to abortions if ovulations cycles were tracked and proper protection used. Women, particularly those living in rural areas, may not have access to abortion services, and the truth is that there would be no need if proper precautions were taken.

Exploring Alternative Solutions and Support for Women

It is crucial to consider alternatives to abortion and the importance of providing a variety of facilities and services for women, including solutions we haven’t covered, one of them being apps that help women track their ovulation cycle.
