The legacy mainstream news, social media platforms, search engines, universities, and even fact checkers have tried to bury a truth. A truth twisted with false narratives. The fake narrative that America did not make a promise of NATO not expanding toward Russia’s western border. But a declassified NSA document proves a promise was made by our country to the then USSR. On February 9th, 1990, President George H.W. Bush sent US Secretary of State James Baker to meet with President Gorbachev. During their meeting, Mr. Baker represented the United States and assured Gorbachev that NATO would not expand, “not an inch eastward (NSA archived document)”.
Examples of false narratives can be found here:
- Politifact: Fact checking claims NATO-US broke agreement again
- Harvard University: There was no promise not to enlarge NATO
President George H.W. Bush failed to stand behind the promise his Secretary of State made. Instead President Bush shut down Mr. Baker’s NATO expansion promise as soon as he had returned back to Washington D.C. The consequences of this continues to leave Russia feeling jaded towards NATO friendly US Presidential Administrations. The importance of this meeting played a critical role in the Cold War’s endgame. The Berlin Wall in Germany had just fallen. Discussions during this time were aimed at stabilizing Europe and reunifying Germany into NATO. But doing so without provoking Soviet security fears, that was a challenge! After all, Germany and Italy have a history of birthing movements hell bent on world domination. These countries being part of NATO offer no peace of mind between NATO nations and Russia.
From the Soviet and later Russian perspective, the USA’s Secretary of State’s words was America’s bond. Countries on the western border of Russia were to serve as a militarily neutral buffer zone. This had been a strategic necessity going back for centuries in Russia’s history. Is it unreasonable for Russia to fight for this historical status quo to carry on?
Russia’s history is marked by the traumatic memory of invasions from the west, with two particularly notable ones. Napoleon’s campaign and the devastating Operation Barbarossa by Nazi Germany during WWII. Especially after the harrowing experience of World War II, and Hitler being right at Russia’s doorstep.
From Russia’s perspective, WWII saw Germany and Italy joining the Axis powers, against whom the USSR was forced to fight. Interestingly, during WWII, Russia and the United States were allies, united in their effort to defeat the Axis.
However, when the war ended, the geopolitical landscape shifted dramatically. NATO was formed initially without Germany, as the country was divided into West and East Germany at the time. West Germany was eventually incorporated into NATO in 1955, while Italy was one of the founding members. This expansion of NATO reignited Russia’s concerns about potential threats from its western border.
These historical events have influenced Russia’s national security stance, which values having a wide buffer zone or neutral military area. Historically, Eastern European countries on Russia’s border were either neutral or within Russia’s sphere of influence. In either circumstance, this provided peace of mind to Russia.
President Trump vowed to build a wall and make the USA pay for it, couldn’t Russia do the same? This would provide some peace of mind to Russia no? I am not suggesting that Mexico pay for Russia’s western border wall, but that would be hilarious. Russia’s western border is about 500 miles shorter than the US southern border. Perhaps President Trump will help Russia negotiate a solution. A border solution that allows Russia to secure their border just as we aim to do. This would keep globalist alliances such as NATO from becoming the threat Russia so fears. Which brings me to the next point.
Concerns about NATO’s expansion also touch upon the broader debate between globalism and nationalism. Democrats and RINOs are globalists pushing for federalism in in the USA. Today’s diverse Republicans are nationalists. Russia is a federalist nationalist country. Democrats know this. This is why they do their best to paint Trump and us his supporters as Russian bots and assets. Need a few examples? Here we go:
- Using false testimony and the rumor mill to spread a hearsay about a non-existent Trump-Russia collusion scandal. (Associated Press)
- Attempting to jail a political opponent and abusing the judicial system through activist judges and utilizing prosecutors who were not authorized to file charges in the first place (Wikipedia)
- Declaring that Trump is going to take people rights away when really he’s just deferring the matter back up to the various states (Las Vegas Sun)
- Referring to Tulsi Gabbard as a Russian Asset (Newsweek Article)
Who was brokering deals with Russia to sell US Uranium mining rights? What about that quid pro quo for a Ukrainian gas company? And who was sending money to Iran who then turned around to fund proxy wars between Hamas and Israel?
The truth is Democrats have been working hard to empower the Federal government. Working hard to strip away the uniqueness of each State’s sovereignty and giving more power to Washington D.C, and less power to the people in their States. President Trump being the worst example of a dictator ever. Dictators don’t work to restore rights back to the States or the People. The left fails to understand that dictators want power shifted in their direction, and their attempts to smear Trump repeatedly. Threats to democracy don’t win the popular vote. Dictators don’t give more of their ruling authority out to other leaders in their nation either.
The legacy media has done their worst to market Trump as an oppressive racist you-name-the-phobic dictator. Even trying to associate him with Adolph Hitler. Coming up with terms such as white nationalists. It’s no secret, conservative Trump supporters are made up of diverse America First nationalists, and it’s not a white agenda. Hitler was a nationalist, but he also was a democratically elected by the National Socialist German Workers Party. If you need a source to believe that, you can read about Hitler’s election on History.com.
Trump supporters oppose the Federalist democratic socialism that Democrats seek to turn America in to. Thankfully the US election results and the diverse supporters on social media and at President Trump’s rally’s debunked many falsehoods. The American people have spoken up loud and clear. We do not want wars, or division. Diplomacy and negotiations result in the best outcome for everyone. We want our southern border to be secure, and Russia wants the same thing for their western border.
What will that look like? We’ll have to see what President Trump does. One thing we do know is that we the people want to save America and Make America Great Again!
